There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
